This post is all about how to create a rustic two peas in a pod baby shower for twins.

You can use some of these design ideas whether you’re celebrating the arrival of twins or a single sweet pea. This style is also a gender neutral theme that’s versatile for all.
I will admit to you – I planned my own baby shower when I was pregnant with my twins. It’s just in my nature to have control over every aspect of party planning and decor.
Plus, it’s something I find so much joy in. So you can imagine that the excitement within me was palpable (or maybe that was just one of the twins kicking).
I was on bed rest for a couple months while pregnant with my twins. All of that time spent in bed allowed me to research and plan every detail of my twins baby shower.
But, I had to be smart about decorating. Let me explain.
Party decorating is hard work and something a pregnant mother of twins shouldn’t really attempt to do unless she has a lot of help the day of the shower.
I was fortunate to have my husband, family, and friends help me with the decorating because they knew how much it meant to me.
Keep things simple.
Whether you’re planning your own baby shower or planning it for someone special, keep things simple.
You can still achieve a gorgeous party that your guests will adore, even with simple and easy decor on a budget.
Here’s how.
First, chose a restaurant venue that allows you to create a set menu and provide everything your guests need in terms of food and drink. This eliminates the need for cooking or coordinating catering.
Next, chose a baby shower theme that works well with the existing interior design of the venue. This means you won’t have to work too hard trying to transform the venue to fit your theme.
In other words, if your venue has a rustic atmosphere, go with a rustic or boho style baby shower theme. If your venue has a modern style, go for an elegant or glam baby shower theme.
You’ll do a lot less work when you work with what you’re given.
In my case, a two peas in a pod baby shower theme was perfect for my boy/girl twins, because it’s gender neutral in theme and color. Plus, my venue had neutral decor with woods and stone that complement a rustic themed baby shower.
Finally, use decorative items that you may already own and plan ahead so you can take your time to DIY and create a few lovely decorations or elements on your own, at your own pace.

How to Create a Rustic Two Peas in a Pod Baby Shower for Twins:
Portable table for a quick set-up
A dessert table is an essential part of decorating a baby shower. It allows you to incorporate so many design elements to showcase your party’s theme.
You can most certainly use a rectangular table provided by the venue and cover it with a pretty tablecloth. That would be the most efficient thing to do. So if the venue has an extra rectangular table for you to use, definitely use it.
However, if you’re looking for a specific look, like I was, then you may need to bring in your own table.
I wanted a lot of natural wood as part of our baby shower decor. For that reason, I needed to bring in a table with certain characteristics. It had to be portable, lightweight, easy to set up, and pretty, of course.
If you’re looking for the same features in a portable table, the Lisabo table from IKEA is perfect for you. It’s lightweight and has a beautiful wood finish that complements so many party styles.
But the ingenious thing about this table is that the legs can easily slide on and off, which makes it perfect for transporting.
It’s a versatile table that I actually used for my sister-in-law’s baby shower earlier that year.
When the baby shower or party is over, you can store it compactly away or use it everyday in your home! You can definitely make good use of this beautifully designed table.

Sisal or Jute Rug to tie the look together
A rug can be an expensive party decor item, but it’s one that I feel is so necessary.
It completes the whole look and makes your dessert table even more inviting to your guests.
A sisal or jute rug – like the one I used for my twins baby shower – is a versatile item you can use over and over for other parties you may host.
Or, you can use it in your home when you’re not using it for a party. That’s because a sisal or jute rug is neutral and complements most interior styles.
When buying a rug for a party, look for sales! A full-priced rug you’re in love with today may be steeply discounted tomorrow.
Here is a jute rug similar to the one I used at my shower.
A 5×7 or 5×8 rug has always worked fine to define the space for my parties. So I suggest looking for rugs in that size range.
If you go smaller than that, your dessert table set-up may look awkwardly proportioned. Conversely, if you go too big, then you’ll be spending more money than you need to on a rug.
Beautiful Rustic Backdrop
A beautiful backdrop is an essential part of party decor.
It gives your decor height and draws guests attention upward.
It also frames your dessert table and gives guests the perfect spot to take pictures with you.
My amazingly handy pharmacist colleague built this wooden frame stand for me. I asked him for advice on how I could make a simple and easily transportable wooden frame.
Well later that week, he constructed the entire wooden frame for me and it surprisingly fit perfectly into my compact car. That made it perfect for transporting to our venue. I am so grateful for good friends.
If you know someone handy, see if they could make on of these for you.
On the other hand, if you’re interested in learning how to make this wooden frame, use my contact form to let me know. I’ll try to put together a tutorial on how to make it.

These crochet lace curtains added the perfect amount to loveliness to the backdrop for my dessert table.
I actually had macrame in mind. However, large macrame panels are quite expensive, so I opted for these more affordable alternatives. And I got the same lovely effect at a fraction of the cost.
I used a total of 3 panels to achieve this look.
To hang the curtains up, attach a simple adjustable curtain rod behind the top beam of the wooden frame. Then, just thread the curtains through the rod and you’re all set.
Twins Baby Shower Burlap Banner
Etsy is such a wonderful place to find unique items. I found this adorable two peas in a pod burlap banner to hang across the crochet curtains.
A burlap banner is perfect because it’s lightweight and easy to hang. Thus, making it great for a quick set-up. It also complements a rustic, natural decor style.
Just don’t forget a couple of screw-in hooks to hang up the banner.

Baby Shower DIY Silhouette Profile Frames
You can make these yourself. They’re really easy to do.
You’ll need a wooden laser-cut frame, poster board, scrapbook paper with burlap print, a glue gun, ribbon and a digital image of a boy’s and/or girl’s silhouette profile to print. You’ll also need scissors, a glue stick and a pencil.
You can find a digital silhouette image by doing a search on the Internet for “little girl face silhouette” and/or “little boy face silhouette”. Just find the one that you like the best.
Here’s how to create your own DIY Silhouette Profile Frames:
First, print out the silhouette image to a size that would look good inside the wooden frame and cut it out.
Second, trace your silhouette print onto the burlap-print scrapbook paper and cut it out.
Next, use your glue stick to paste the silhouette profile onto the poster board.
Then, frame the silhouette profile inside your wooden frame and cut out the poster board to fit under the inner lip of the wooden frame.
To do this, take a pencil and trace some guide lines along the outer side of the lip. This will give you enough space on the poster board to glue the outer edge of the poster to the back side of the wooden frame.
Finally, hot glue the oval poster board to the back side of the wooden frame and tie a ribbon at the top of the wooden frame to hang it up.
Simple and Easy Flower Centerpieces and Greenery

In an effort to kept things easy and simple, I didn’t go crazy with flowers. Transporting flowers in vases is not always a fun task.
Instead, I made small, simple centerpieces for each table with white premium hydrangeas, green mini hydrangeas, and white roses.
I used glass bowl vases (check DollarTree for these) and white pitcher vases from Ikea.
Next, I laid down Israeli ruscus down the center of each guest table to make it look like a greenery table runner.
I also added greenery to the gift table table, seating chart, and anywhere else I thought might need some color.
Using greenery that you can just lay out and overlap is the perfect way get the feel of florals without having to buy all kinds of flowers and make arrangements.
Israeli ruscus is an affordable type of greenery that’s very hearty plant and can be kept alive in water for a long time.
Side note: My mother-in-law actually kept the Israeli ruscus from my twins baby shower alive until the twins’ first birthday. That’s over a year! All she did was keep it in a vase of water and refreshed the water every week. Incredible, right?
So don’t throw the greenery away after the party. Take them home (or let your guests take them) and keep them alive with fresh water to enjoy them for a while.
Simple Rustic Twins Baby Shower Cake

Again, for simplicity’s sake (and to save money), I ordered two bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes to make this tiered beauty.
If you haven’t tried a NBC bundt cake, you need to right now! These bundt cakes are so delicious and moist.
Furthermore, there are so many flavors to choose from (and all flavors are yummy!). Plus, the rustic look of the icing is perfect for any party or get-together.
I ordered a 10-inch undecorated bundt and an 8-inch undecorated bundt. You can actually order a pre-made tiered cake. However, it’s cheaper to buy each individual tier separately and put it together yourself.
This trick also works well if you need to transport the cake to a venue. That’s because each cake is packaged in individual boxes and are easy to transport without the fear of ruining a conventional tiered cake.
Furthermore, you won’t have to order a tiered cake from a specialty baker and pay extra for delivery. You’ll get a beautiful tiered cake that tastes amazing if you do it my way.
At the venue, I transferred the 8-inch cake to an 8-inch cake board. Then I literally plopped it on top of the 10-inch cake. And just like that, you have a yummy tiered rustic baby shower cake.
Remember to bring along a large spatula (or two) so you can transfer the 8-inch cake to the cake board.
Here’s how I decorated this rustic cake:
First, I inserted a large artificial silk peony flower on top of the 8-inch cake to cover the bundt cake hole. I already had some fake flowers from another project, so that’s what I used.
I recommend that you look through your craft supplies and use what you already have. Chances are you’ll find something pretty you can use and save some money.
If you don’t have anything, these are versatile artificial peony flowers that you can use for a rustic baby shower and save the rest for another project or party.
Next, I rinsed and cut some fresh green mini hydrangeas. I just randomly inserted them into the cake tiers for an organic look.
Finally, I added a wooden “its twins” cake topper.
I placed the cake on top of this rustic wooden cake stand that I already had from my toddler’s Boho Wild One First Birthday Party (post on that boho party coming soon).
I also used a white pedestal cake stand (similar) to give the cake the illusion of added height.
Two Peas in a Pod Cupcakes

These are actually cute bite-sized bundtinis from Nothing Bundt Cakes. I made the pea pod cupcake toppers out of green fondant and light green fondant.
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to make these cute pea pod fondant cupcake toppers:
First, roll a whole bunch of small balls of light green fondant in the palm of your hand. Set those aside.
Next, roll some green fondant flat with a small fondant rolling pin. Use a small round cookie cutter (or even a baby bottle cap) to cut half-circle pieces.
Then, pinch the edges of 2 half-circles together to form the pod.
Finally, use a skinny paintbrush to swipe a small amount of water into the pod and place two light green balls (the peas) inside the pod. The water will act as a glue to hold the two peas inside the pod.
You can make these a couple of weeks in advance. Just keep them in an airtight container.
On the day of your shower, just place these pea pod toppers on top your bundtinis and display.
Two Peas in a Pod Cookies

I decorate cookies for fun, so it was only natural that I would make cookies for my own baby shower. Again, I was on bed rest, so I needed to keep things very easy for myself.
I used the large ruffled square cookie cutter in this versatile cookie cutter set, the baby onesie cookie cutter from this baby theme cookie cutter set, and a plaque design from this plaques cookie cutter set.
The most time consuming thing with decorating cookies is mixing icing colors and transferring them to icing bags. So in order to make things really easy, decorate with white and one other color, if you can.
You can create a similar minimalist green pea design with white icing and by mixing only one color – green. It can’t get any easier than that!
I used copper and glass vanity trays that I already owned, filled them with green jelly beans, and placed the cookies on top.
Rustic Party Decor Items

The two peas in a pod blocks decoration is another fantastic Etsy find. I tied a white bow around one of the pea’s little wire hairs to make them boy and girl peas. It makes for a lovely keepsake or gift to the mommy-to-be.
The white pitcher flower vases are from IKEA. Can you believe I’ve been using these vases for almost every party I’ve decorated since I bought them in 2016? That’s what I consider a great investment.
The tall wooden cake stands are from Home Goods, but these wooden cake stands are a more attractive alternative.
I found the wood slice platters at Home Goods, too, but this footed wood slice platter looks almost identical.
I found the white cake stands with wavy edges in the seasonal bargain bin at Target for $5 each! Here is a nice alternative for those white cake stands.

I hope you can take some of these easy and simple baby shower design ideas and use it for your baby shower, whether you’re expecting twins or one sweet pea.
