This post is all about the top 10 tech gadgets you need now that will help you create a better bedtime routine for your baby and one that’s easier for you.
I can only imagine what it was like for new parents in past decades or centuries to get their babies to sleep at night.
Luckily in this day and age, we have technology and gadgets that help us with the process of getting our babies to sleep at night.
Now, I can’t promise a tech device is going to sleep train your baby for you.
However, there are several essential tech devices and gadgets that can help you make your baby bedtime routine better and much easier for you.
Use technology to your advantage.
Make your baby bedtime routine easy and simple for you and more pleasant for your little one.
Let’s face it, you’re a busy mom and you deserve devices and gadgets to help you out during bedtime.
Baby Bedtime Routine Made Simple with these 10 Tech Items:
1. Snuza Hero SE Baby Movement Monitor.
Okay real talk, the Snuza Hero SE Baby Movement Monitor is one baby tech item that I found absolutely essential for my baby bedtime routine.
It gave me peace of mind and helped me get more restful sleep during the night.
SIDS, or sudden infant death syndrome, is a scary thing for all new parents.
It usually occurs during sleep and babies are at risk until their first birthday.
Please remember that no baby monitor on the market can claim to be 100% effective at preventing SIDS.
Furthermore, I encourage you to follow SIDS prevention recommendations from your pediatrician.
The Snuza Hero SE Baby Movement Monitor, however, can be a tool to help you monitor your baby’s breathing movements during naps and at bedtime.
In fact, our pediatrician recommended the Snuza Hero SE to us when we were brand new parents.
It’s design is extremely simple and easy to use. All you do is turn it on and clip it to your baby’s diaper.
While the Snuza Hero SE clips on to the diaper, the sensor tip touchs your baby’s tummy.
This allows the monitor to detect your baby’s breathing movement.
If the monitor doesn’t detect any breathing motion for 20 seconds, an alarm will sound off to alert you to check on baby.
Now, if the monitor slips off your baby’s diaper and the sensor tip isn’t touching your baby’s tummy, then the alarm will sound.
Unfortunately, this means you will be awakened to a false alarm. This has happened to me several times.
Although I was disturbed from my sleep a couple of times, I wasn’t bothered by it at all.
The way I see it, I’d rather be awaken to a false alarm than not have any alarm at all.
2. Owlet Smart Sock
The Owlet Smart Sock is a baby monitor that tracks your baby’s oxygen level and heart rate while they sleep.
You attach the sock to your baby’s foot before sleep.
If your baby’s readings leave the normal preset safe range, you’ll receive a notification to check on baby right away.
The Owlet Smart Sock reminds me of the pulse oximetry monitors they used on my twins when they were preemies in the NICU.
Those tiny foot monitors are probably the only way busy NICU nurses can monitor multiple babies at a time.
The Owlet offers you that technology in your own home.
Again, remember that no baby monitor on the market can claim to prevent SIDS.
Furthermore, you should always follow SIDS prevention advice from a trusted health professional.
However, the Owlet Smart Sock is a tool that can help you monitor your baby when you use it along with SIDS prevention best practices.
It can give you some peace of mind and alleviate your anxiety for more restful sleep.
We all know how valuable sleep is for you as a new parent. In short, make use of this technology to help you get sleep and save your sanity.
3. Closed-circuit video baby monitor
A baby monitor that offers you video and audio is an essential item for all baby rooms.
It allows you to check on your sleeping baby throughout the night or during naps while you are in another room.
Additionally, parents who are in the process of sleep training find video baby monitors very useful.
There are so many options on the market for video baby monitors that it can get overwhelming to choose one.
To keep things simple and easy, use a closed circuit baby monitor, like the Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor, instead of a WiFi baby monitor. Here’s why.
First, a closed circuit video baby monitor, is just that – closed.
That means you won’t have to worry about the possibility of someone hacking into your WiFi and hijacking your baby monitor.
Second, most Wifi video baby monitors rely on internet connectivity.
That means if your internet goes down, so will a Wifi monitor.
A closed circuit video monitor, on the other hand, does not rely on your internet connection, so you’ll always be connected.
Finally, the Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor is much more affordable compared to some WiFi baby monitors.
In addition to the price tag, most WiFi baby monitors require you to pay additional fees or buy a subscription to use their apps.
You won’t need to do that with a closed-circuit baby monitor – no extra fees or subscriptions.
Plus, it’s so easy to set up and use.
I recommend Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor as an essential baby monitor for households with twins, multiples, or more than two youngsters.
That’s because you can monitor up to 4 cameras.
4. Amazon Alexa Smart Speaker for Baby’s Nursery
You probably already have an Amazon Alexa-enabled smart speaker that you can’t live without.
Alexa does so much for all of us. She’s your personal assistant and more.
So it only makes sense to use that technology assist you with your baby bedtime routine.
Putting a smart speaker, like this adorable Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition, in your baby’s bedroom can help you with so many different things.
Here are a few commands that I use for my baby bedtime routine.
“Alexa, play a lullaby”.
“Alexa, turn on sound machine”.
And of course: “Alexa, turn off bedroom lights”.
Do you see how helpful these commands can be when if comes to simplifying your baby bedtime routine?
You can ask Alexa to do a few simple tasks instead of having to get up yourself during such a delicate time like bedtime.
For example, like when you’re comfortably nursing your baby.
Or, when you’ve finally rocked that precious baby to sleep and have him or her cozily cradled in your arms.
It’s a no-brainer to have a dedicated Amazon Echo Dot in the nursery so you won’t have to get up to do those tasks yourself when you’re occupied.
Use the technology available to you to make your baby bedtime routine simpler.
5. Smart plug for baby bedtime routine
Smart plugs can turn a dumb device into a smart device. Any device or appliance that’s connected to a smart plug can become WiFi-controlled through your smart phone.
You can also take it a step further and pair your smart plug with your Amazon Echo Dot to turn any device into a voice-controlled device.
As such, you’ll be able to program a command into your Echo Dot to control whatever device you have plugged into the smart plug. For example, “Alexa, turn on sound machine.”
Check out these instructions on how to connect your smart plug to Alexa.
Depending on the type of smart plug you get, you may or may not need a hub, which is a network device that connects multiple devices to the same network.
I’m not always good with tech-related things, so I like to keep things simple. That’s why I suggest getting the Amazon Smart Plug for your nursery.
All you need is a device that is Alexa-enabled like Echo, Fire TV, Fire tablet, Sonos One, or the Alexa app on your phone.
Simply plug in a device, like a lamp, sound machine, or air purifier to the Amazon Smart Plug and you’ll be able to control that appliance with a voice command you give to Alexa.
You can control multiple devices in your baby’s nursery with multiple Amazon Smart Plugs.

Dim lights set the mood for sleep for your little one. While the room is dim, you can move around the room while still being able to see.
With smart light bulbs, you can dim the nursery with a voice command to your smart speaker or through an app on your phone.
You can even activate different types of light settings, like bright or dim. Additionally, you can simply turn off the lights with your voice when it is paired with a smart speaker.
You can get find many different brands of smart light bulbs online. The most important thing is to find one that suits your needs. I recommend getting smart light bulbs that are compatible with a smart speaker, like Amazon Alexa.
My smart light bulbs of choice are Philips Hue Smart Bulbs. First, Philips is a reliable brand and they are constantly innovating their products.
Second, these smart bulbs are compatible with any voice assistant like Alexa or Google Assistant.
Finally, you can use the Philips bluetooth app control these lights.
Being able to turn on dim bedroom lights with a voice command is absolutely essential when you wake up in the middle of the night to feed or change your little one.
First of all, you’ll be able to save yourself some time by not having to walk over to the light switch. More importantly, you can immediately activate a dim light setting in the middle of the night.
It’s important to keep lights dim while changing or feeding your little one so as not to arouse your him or her. That way, it’ll be easier to get your baby back to sleep faster, and that means more sleep for you.
7. White noise sound machine, an essential for baby bedtime routine
White noise sound machines help to drown out distracting sounds that could wake your baby up. For example, traffic on a busy street, older siblings, dishes being washed, and other noisy scenarios that could disturb your baby from their sleep.
A white noise sound machine can also keep your baby asleep longer improve their sleep quality. That’s so important because your baby needs quality sleep for their development.
It also means that you will get better sleep.
If you have twins, like I do, sound machines allow each of them to sleep even if the other wakes up crying.
In addition, having a bubbly toddler on a different sleep schedule from my twins allows them to sleep through her noise.
Plus, I can get still get dishes done after baby bedtime without the fear of waking them up.
We’ve tried a couple of different white noise machines, but the one that works best for our needs is the Lectro Fan Classic White Noise and Fan Sound Machine. It has 20 different continuous sounds.
We like to use the deeper fan noise since it soothes our kids the best.
The soothing sound sets the mood for sleep and the kids instantly know that it’s time for sleep when they hear it. Remember to get one for each room that your kids sleep or nap in.
A fan is a simple appliance that you may already have in your baby’s room. But plan on adding it to your baby bedtime routine because turning on a fan at night has a huge health benefit for your infant.
Did you know that having a fan on in your baby’s room while they sleep could lower their risk of SIDS by over 70%?
A well-ventilated room reduces your baby’s risk of overheating, which is a known risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome.
If you don’t already have a ceiling fan in your nursery, forgo the pretty chandelier and install a ceiling fan instead.
If you can’t do without that pretty light fixture, try a room air circulator like the Vornadobaby Breesi Nursery Air Circulator Fan. This fan creates gentle circulation pattern.

There a ton of adorable night lights available on the market, but most of them can actually disturb your baby’s sleep.
Red is the best color for a night light because it doesn’t inhibit sleep.
